You can sell your outdated gear to a vendor like Karneeki the Great by the power house door at Millennium City. Equip the stuff given to you by the Powerhouse/Defender at the start of the game, and just start replacing them for better gear as you progress through the game. Generally speaking, you will come across many gear drops while you’re leveling via questing. This is for first timers or newbies new to the game.
As with most MMO, gear can be a factor to take into consideration while you’re leveling.
